If we talk about a comprehensive medical eye exam, a visual acuity test is an inextricable part of it. It is one of those tests that are performed at the very beginning for measuring the sharpness of eyesight. So, you can expect such a test when you go for a medical eye exam.

Such a test is performed with the help of a projected eye chart and hand-held acuity chart. A projected eye chart is used to measure distance visual acuity whereas a hand-held acuity chart is used to check your visual acuity at a reading distance.

Cover Test

There are many ways through which doctors check the functionality of your eyes. In other words, we can say that they check how your eyes are working together. Well, the cover test is one of those ways and it is the most common and simplest one. This is why we have added this test to the list. During this test, you will be asked for focusing on a very tiny thing across the room. After that, each of your eyes will be covered alternatively while staring at the small target.

Later, the same test will be done with a near object. Through this test, doctors check whether you have a fixation problem or not in your eyes. This is called strabismus which leads to amblyopia or eye strain.

Colour Blindness Test

Colour blindness test is another common test that is performed during a medical eye exam. This test lets the doctor know about eye health; moreover, it also lets the eye doctor know whether the patient is suffering from hereditary color vision deficiencies or not.

Ocular Motility Test

This test is done to determine how effectively your eyes can follow any moving object. During this test, the doctor will hold your head and you will be asked to follow the movement of hand-held light with your eyes. Well, difficulties with eye movements can create many major problems such as headaches, eye strain, blurry vision, and many more.
